Pot Pies are a staple comfort food for many in North America. With origins in the 16th century as the humble meat pie in the United Kingdom, pot pies are enjoyed anywhere, from restaurants and at home, to bars and pubs. They are an easy and delicious meal for anyone!
Ever wonder how we make our pot pies at Kozies? It’s quite simple, really!
The Kozies story starts with our founders, Saad and Shahzeb, who were in New Zealand for a vacation. They fell in love with the pot pies in the country, which are a close sibling to mincemeat pies in Britan. When they came back to the US, they noticed these delicious pies were unavailable, so they decided to start Kozies, inspired by the New Zealand pies, with an emphasis on tasty halal food for all.
First, we start with our handmade dough, lined into dishes. The pastry is thick enough to keep the inside filling contained, but light and flaky enough to compliment the filling! Next, our halal fillings are placed inside the dough-lined dish.
Customers can choose between four fillings: A classic chicken pot pie, with tender chicken, crispy vegetables, and a creamy sauce; A beef pot pie, with delicious beef, vegetables, and a medley of spices; A butter chicken pot pie, a twist on the classic Indian dish with seasoned, tender chicken in a creamy butter sauce; Or, a spinach pot pie, with a rich cream sauce and spinach, a fan favorite for those who love spinach dip.
Next, more dough is placed atop the pie and sealed, and the pies go into the oven for 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the filling in the pies. Once out of the oven, the light, flaky, and delicious pies are packaged up, and put into bags for orders. There are also sides, including honey glazed carrots, garlic parmesan green beans, corn on the cob, or mashed potatoes.
